Power takes Race 1 at Mid-Ohio

Will Power (Penske) won the first race of the Mid-Ohio doubleheader by more than seven seconds ahead of his teammate, Josef Newgarden, and by almost nine seconds, Alexander Red (Andretti).

« I'm so happy to have finally won here, where I have often been so close to victory » reacted the man who had to wait for the 10th race (out of 14) of the season to sign the first success of his season, the 38th of his career.

Poleman, Power never trembled during the 75 laps on the road program located in Lexington. The Australian only relinquished his leading position through the use of alternative strategies, and always had enough margin over Newgarden, who had taken 2nd place on the first lap, to never be attacked.

Overall, it was Josef Newgarden who did well, regaining 20 points from the 94 points he was behind Scott Dixon, the still comfortable leader, tenth on Saturday after starting in 17th position.

To simon pagenaud (Penske), 18th, the race turned into an ordeal, with contact with Rinus VeeKay (Ed Carpenter Racing) on the 2nd lap. After completing a 360 degree turn, the Frenchman, who started in 10th position, started again from the back of the peloton. In a race without neutralization, he would not have the opportunity to recover, especially since he lost a few seconds during his first passage through the pitlane.

Tomorrow, at 19:05 p.m., the grid will start for the second race of the weekend.
