Sage Karam shines in racing conditions at Indy

The eighth practice session for the Indianapolis 500, held yesterday at the end of the day, allowed the 33 competitors of the 102nd edition to compete in racing conditions on the American oval.

A ride which highlighted Sage Karam (Dreyer & Reinbold Racing – Chevrolet), author of the best time in 39″741, at an average speed of 226,461 mph (or 364,453 km/h). The 2013 Indy Lights champion thus remains the only driver to have gone above 226 mph on a lap.

Tony Kanaan (A.J. Foy Enterprises – Chevrolet) follows more than two tenths ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport), first representative of the Honda clan. Charlie Kimball (Carlin – Chevrolet) and Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport) complete the top 5 ahead of the first car of Team Penske – Chevrolet, led by Will Power.

Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan – Honda) ranked 11th while the pole sitter of the 102nd edition, Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet) finished 14th. Danica Patrick (Ed Carpenter Racing) took 19th place, simon pagenaud (Team Penske) brings up the rear in 33rd place.

The session was marked by the accident of Robert Wickens (SPM – Honda), fortunately emerging unscathed after double contact with the outside wall.

The drivers will now return to the track on Friday for Carb Day before the big 500 miles meeting scheduled for this Sunday.
