An anniversary livery for Marco Andretti at the 500 Indianapolis 2019

The 32-year-old American will wear the same decoration that allowed his grandfather Mario Andretti to win the Borg-Warner Trophy, reserved for the winner of the Indy 500. “This neon red color will be hard to miss on the track”, recognizes the man with two successes in IndyCar.

Among the nice details, note the mention “ FB » near the front suspension. No, it's not a sponsor from Facebook, but the mechanic's initials Frank Boeninghaus, who was responsible for Marco Andretti's engine in 1969. Marco Andretti's racing number is also on a black background, like his grandfather in his time.

This delicate attention moved Mario Andretti. “I was so proud when I learned that Michael was going to honor me”, explains the American, now 79 years old. “I am very flattered by the team's effort to commemorate this victory. I hope this decoration is a good omen for Marco and that he will finally win the Indy 500.”

Indeed, Marco Andretti is still chasing a victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Rather discreet on the roads, the American is often at ease in this temple of US motorsport: he came close to a sensational blow from his first participation in 2006 at only 19 years old (2nd), then recorded three other podiums ( 3rd in 2008, 2010 and 2014).
