A third McLaren planned for Indy 500

McLaren will associate with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports to play the entirety of the next season ofIndycar. The Woking outfit will field two cars for the entire season after having played with Andretti and Carlin in two of the last three editions of the Indy 500.

The association should also line up a third car for the Indianapolis 500 as suggested by Sam Schmidt, co-owner of SPM.

“There will definitely be a third car at Indy, but our current priority is to have two cars with the same livery and the same opportunities to win races, including the Indy 500, as well as the title. We haven’t yet thought about a third car, but it’s clearly not impossible,” commented Sam Schmidt.

As to whether Fernando Alonso will return to try to secure the Triple Crown at the Indy 500, McLaren Racing director Zak Brown reserves the right to provide any answers even if he does not rule out the possibility.

“I will see Fernando at the Italian GP (September 8), said the American. He is of course aware of our activities in Indycar as he has been for some time now. I don't think his desire to win the Indy 500 has diminished. He has yet to show interest in a full season. He's coming off 20 years of full-time competition and I think he wants to use the second half of the year to see what he does in the future. »

Fernando Alonso withdrew from WEC mais reste impliqué avec Toyota. His name is mentioned for the next Dakar which will be held next year in Saudi Arabia.
