Jean-Eric Vergne takes pole in Switzerland

Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) took pole position for the Berne ePrix in Switzerland, after setting the time benchmark during the Super Pole in 1’18”813.

The Frenchman had dominated the first qualifying group, before Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) improved the provisional best absolute mark at the end of group 2 in 1’18”897.

No change after the third group for first place, since Evans still dominates ahead of Vergne, Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra) having moved into third position ahead Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams), Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) and Daniel Abt (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler), provisionally qualified for Super Pole.

Maximilian Günther (Dragon Racing) will be the only driver to enter the decisive session from the 4th group, finishing 5th in the first part of qualifying and thus eliminating Abt.

Undivided victory in Super Pole

Evans, Vergne, Wehrlein, Buemi, Günther and Bird therefore compete for the Super Pole which sees Vergne finally set the benchmark time in 1’18”813, his first pole in 2018-2019.

The Frenchman is three tenths ahead of Mitch Evans and Sébastien Buemi, and above all wins three bonus points which could count towards the title. Wehrlein will start in 4th position ahead of Günther and Bird.

Among the disappointments of these qualifications, let us note the 19th place of only Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler), the Brazilian being the closest pursuer of Jean-Eric Vergne in the fight for the 2018-2019 title of the 100% electric series . Tom Dillmann (NIO) will start 21st.

The Audi driver indicated that he had no grip on the track, after being the very first to leave the pits in the first group. The Berne ePrix will start at 18 p.m. French time.
