Jean-Eric Vergne inherits pole in Monaco

Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) took pole position for the Paris ePrix, without having achieved the best time in Super Pole, to the credit of Oliver Rowland (Nissan e.dams).

But a penalty for the Briton will allow the Frenchman to start the race in the afternoon from the preferential position.

The qualifying groups were dominated by Vergne, best time in 50″048, 10 thousandths ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing), Felipe Massa (Venturi), beaten by 42 thousandths, while the two Nissan e.dams of Sébastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland also entered the Super Pole as did Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing).

Only separated by less than two tenths after the qualifying groups, this top 6 will see Oliver Rowland set the best time in Super Pole in 50″021, but the three-place penalty received in Paris by the Briton during the last round for a collision, finally offers first place to Jean-Eric Vergne.

The Frenchman will start in front of Mitch Evans, while Pascal Wehrlein, 3rd, will accompany Rowland on the second row. Felipe Massa and Sébastien Buemi complete the top 6.

Alexander Sims (BMW i Andretti) was the first driver eliminated after the qualifying groups and precedes Alex Lynn (Jaguar Racing) and Antonio Felix da Costa (BMW i Andretti). José Maria Lopez (Dragon Racing) enters the top 10, while the leaders of the general classification were not at the party.

Behind Stoffel Vandoorne (HWA), 11th, Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing) only took 12th place but did better than his rival André Lotterer (DS Techeetah), author of the last time. The German will not start in last position, however, because Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), penalized three places for a collision during the Paris ePrix, will have to observe his penalty on the Monegasque grid.

Tom Dillmann (NIO) signs the 21st time, but will also benefit from the sanction imposed on Mortara to move up a place.
