Johnny Cecotto Jr briefly announced that he was ending his motorsport career by posting a message on his Twitter account. “I thank everyone who supported me. Today, my career is ending without having received a response from President (of Venezuela) Nicolas Maduro. »
Johnny Cecotto Jr is the eponymous son of the former pilot of F1 who had competed in 18 Grands Prix in 1983 and 1984 with the Theodore and Toleman teams. The 26-year-old Venezuelan made himself known by competing in many seasons in GP2 Series (debut in 2010), but his best result obtained in the Championship was a 5th place in 2014. He entered Auto GP this year when the discipline is struggling to accommodate enough competitors. The Venezuelan was able to taste F1 by taking part in young driver tests with Toro Rosso.
Venezuela has supported Pastor Maldonado, current Lotus F1 Team driver, for several years.
