Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson at Hitech GP in 2021?

The 2020 season is not yet over but the teams of Formula 2 are already hard at work preparing for the next one. And according to our information, the British Hitech Grand Prix team has even already chosen its two drivers for next season.

The structure led by Oliver Oakes would indeed have set its sights on Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson. Discussions are very advanced and barring any developments, Hitech should rely on this duo in 2021. Jüri Vips, initially entered in Super Formula without ever being able to go to Japan for administrative reasons linked to the global Covid-19 pandemic, finally lined up in Formula Regional Europe in its quest for the superlicence.

He mainly freelanced in Formula 2 with DAMS during the last three races to date, during which he notably won a podium in the sprint race at Mugello. Supplanted in spite of himself by Yuki tsunoda within the fold Red Bull, the Estonian will have the opportunity to also prove that he deserves a seat in Formula 1.

At his side, therefore, the New Zealander Liam Lawson, leader of the Hitech GP team in FIA F3 this season, is indeed anticipated. The Kiwi had a solid season with a 5th place in the drivers' standings, despite three retirements in a row, two of which were due to engine failure. Like the Jehan Daruvala-Yuki Tsunoda duo this year at Carlin, Red Bull is keen to place its two drivers within the same team. The line-up, however, should not be revealed anytime soon.

This choice, in turn, would indirectly confirm the more than probable promotion of Nikita mazepin in Haas in Formula 1 next season, which we revealed in our columns (AH n°2282). The father of the Russian driver being one of the major shareholders of the British team Hitech, it would be difficult to imagine Nikita Mazepin continuing in Formula 2 in another team...
