Rome ePrix postponed due to coronavirus

Without much surprise given the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus and drastic measures taken by the Italian government in recent days, the Rome ePrix, scheduled for April 4, has been postponed to a date still unknown. The organizers of the Formula E confirmed the information in a press release this Friday.

“Due to the ongoing health emergency in Italy and in accordance with the provisions set out in the Ministerial Decree concerning measures to combat and contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, taking into account sporting events welcoming spectators , it will no longer be possible to organize the Rome E-Prix on April 4, 2020.

Formula E, in agreement with the relevant authorities in Rome, EUR SpA, the FIA and the Automobile Club of Italy (ACI), will work closely with championship partners and stakeholders to evaluate and consider alternative options to reschedule the ePrix to a later date once restrictions are lifted.

All ticket holders will be contacted through the appropriate channels in the coming days. »

Rome is the second round to be impacted by the coronavirus, following the cancellation of the Sanya ePrix in China. Most sports are affected in Italy, notably Serie A in football, with matches postponed and ultimately played behind closed doors.

Apart from the Chinese Grand Prix, only the F1 seems to be maintaining its upcoming races for the moment, since the Australian Grand Prix is due to take place in a week in Melbourne.
