After serving as a laboratory for Formula 1 by first fitting 18-inch tires in 2020, two years before F1, the Formula 2 is preparing to once again take on the blows for the premier category. While the fuel used this year in F1, E10, contains 10% renewable ethanol, the proclaimed objective is to use a synthetic fuel by 2026. The FIA, as a reminder, will impose on all its categories to use a 2026% renewable fuel from 100.
With this in mind, the F2 and the F3 have joined forces with the Saudi oil giant Aramco, which will provide them with a partially renewable fuel from the 2023 season. The fuel in question will in fact be 55% renewable in the two championships, with a percentage which will gradually increase until reaching 100 % in 2026 according to F1.
“It's quite easy to introduce these changes in F2 and F3, knowing that these are categories with single suppliers. We are very happy to be part of these innovations”, welcomed promoter Bruno Michel. Please note that the agreement concluded with Aramco remains subject to final acceptance by the World Motor Sport Council.
