F2 opts for rolling starts

Following the numerous accelerator problems that appeared during the Castellet weekend, the organizers of the championship Formula 2 took a radical decision by deciding that all starts in the next races would be rolling starts.

The starting procedures have become very random and the sequence of three race weekends in a row does not allow the technical teams to work calmly on resolving the clutch and accelerator problems linked to the introduction of the new car F2.

« The situation is not ideal at all, comments F2 director Bruno Michel, but pilot safety is a top priority. We do not have time to test a lasting solution for the problems at the starts and the FIA judged that this was the best solution. This gives us enough time to find a solution to the problem and return to normal in Budapest. »

The drivers will follow the safety car for one lap before the race begins with the green flag waved at the start-finish line. This solution will only be used, for the moment, for this weekend at Red Bull Ring and the next round at Silverstone. This leaves F2 technical teams four weeks to find a solution before the Hungarian Grand Prix.
