JM Correa's family gives news of their son

Operated for multiple leg fractures and a slight spinal injury at Liège University Hospital following the crash which devastated the Spa-Francorchamps meeting, John Manuel Correa was transferred to a specialist care unit in the UK earlier this week.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, his parents Juan Carlos and Maria Correa sent a press release reporting complications for the young 20-year-old American-Ecuadorian pilot.

« Upon arrival in London, Juan Manuel was diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome. This is a common pathology in high-impact accidents.

Unfortunately, this injury led to acute respiratory failure. Juan Manuel is currently in a care unit specializing in respiratory problems.

He is in an artificial coma and on life support using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. (ECMO in English). Juan Manuel is in critical but stable condition.

We are convinced that our son will surprise us as he does every time with his fighting spirit and his strength of character and that he will make a full recovery. We ask for your kindness to respect our privacy at this time.

We need to come together and stick together as a family to be there for Juan Manuel 100%. Maria and I would also like to send our condolences to the Hubert family. We are all heartbroken and can only imagine the pain they are going through right now ».

The entire AUTO editorial teamhebdo joins the motorsport community in wishing Juan Manuel Correa the best possible recovery and sends our best thoughts to his family and loved ones.
