FIA launches call for tenders for 2022-2025 batteries

The FIA ​​and the Formula E revealed the call for tenders for the next batteries for the period 2022 – 2025, which will feature seasons 9, 10 and 11.

Today provided by McLaren Technologies, the whole which will constitute the heart of the single-seaters in a little over two years will have to adapt to new technologies brought by the promoter, including rapid charging.

The call for tenders concerns the batteries themselves (cells, management, power transformer, cooling, accessories, etc.), with Formula E responsible for providing the rapid charging system and managing the energy supply. .

In terms of figures, the FIA ​​details two possible scenarios, the most optimistic displaying a desired racing power of 300 kW (compared to 200 kW currently). Qualifications, but also Fan Boost and Attack modes will be able to count on 350 kW.

Regeneration on the rear axle could reach 350 kW, compared to 250 kW at the front. Fast charging would be done in 30″ at 600 kW of power.

The call for tenders also reveals other characteristics to be expected from single-seaters in the future, including a clear reduction in the total mass, from 900 kg to 780 kg including the driver. This with a complete battery pack going from over 380 kg to 284 kg.
