Formula E takes on the Punta del Este ePrix

After the victories of Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt) in Beijing (China) and Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) in Putrajaya (Malaysia), theFormula E will resume its rights this Saturday, December 13 in Punta del Este in Uruguay for the third round of the season. The grid will further evolve with the arrivals ofAntonio Garcia (China Racing) and Salvador Durán (Almin Aguri), but above all Jean-Eric Vergne (Andretti).

The organizers made a track with 20 turns for a total of 2,8km covered 31 times, which brings the Punta del Este ePrix located at Playa Brava beach to 86,8km. The route offers a rather high average speed with significant braking. Aspiration will remain necessary in overtaking and energy management. Pilots could be disrupted by changes in surfaces and the presence of sand, even if the track has recently been resurfaced.

“In each round we discover many new details specific to the discipline”, recognized Jean-Pascal Dauce, the Competition Director of Renault Sports Technologies. “The structural reinforcements of the gearbox carried out in Putrajaya were fully satisfactory. The main challenge now concerns thermal conditions. Under high temperatures, we must ensure the perfect functioning of the batteries of each team. In Punta del Este, the circuit is somewhat similar to that of Beijing, and competitors will have to manage their energy during the race. Sand will be an unknown, but the air requirements of the electric motor are significantly lower than thermal ones. Finally, even if no problems have been identified, we are not letting our guard down and we are continuing our efforts in the area of security. »
