Formula 3 will not return to Macau this year

Richard Verschoor will therefore remain the reigning champion of the Macau Grand Prix for another year in Formula 3. Crowned in 2019, the Dutchman did not have the opportunity to defend his title last year, since the Formula 3 event as well as the other international categories were unable to take part in the last edition for health reasons. obvious. The Formula 3 World Cup will not take place this year either, for similar reasons. The Macanese government has in fact established a restrictive twenty-one-day quarantine for foreign nationals, making it extremely difficult for drivers and teams to come. This is the reason why the FIA has once again decided that there will be no international series during the event which will be held from November 18 to 21.

Last year, the Chinese F4 carried the standard of car during the Macanese event and will therefore be back this year, even if this championship has still not had a single meeting in 2021, again for health reasons. The organizer is also studying the possibility of hosting the Dallara 320 of Euroformula and Super Formula Lights, in order to have cars that are as close as possible to F3. Note that the FIA GT World Cup will not take place either, and that the Touring World Cup will therefore conclude its season in Russia.

FIA General Secretary Peter Bayer obviously regretted the absence of the FIA series: “For several years, the Macau Grand Prix has been the end point of the year for most categories in motorsport and this is of considerable importance to the FIA as it is the only event that features three Different FIA World Cups in the same event. We will miss not being there, but we wish the organizers a good Grand Prix. We will start working on the 2022 event now.”
