Formula E will become World Championship in 2020-2021

From 2020-2021, the Formula E will join the big concert of the F1, WRC or the WEC, as an FIA-labeled World Championship. The international federation has confirmed the change in status of the 100% electric single-seater series from season seven.

The agreement was signed between Jean Todt, president of the FIA ​​and Alejandro Agag, president of Formula E after a vote by the World Motor Sport Council.

A new aura for the series, which was notably able to count this year on the arrival of Mercedes et Porsche alongside BMW, Audi, Jaguar, DS Automobiles, NIO, Penske, Nissan and Mahindra Racing, as manufacturers of the powertrains.

This multiplicity of different manufacturers was an essential condition to validate this status, a criterion that has been achieved since 2015-2016. Formula E will thus be the fifth major FIA world championship with F1, WRC, WEC and World RX to award world crowns to Drivers and Manufacturers.

“Since we started this journey, Formula E has undoubtedly improved, indicates Jean Todt. In a short time, the series has proven itself relevant to the automotive industry. Two more major automakers joined the series at the start of the current season, bringing their total number to ten.

The commitment and professionalism of these manufacturers and their respective teams is reflected in the quality of the driver list, which has improved with each season.

Since its first race in Beijing in 2014 and with every e-Prix thereafter, Formula E has proven that the concept of electric racing works. »
