This could be a further step towards augmented reality and a better quality experience offered to the viewer or Internet user. As of this season, which starts on November 22 in Diriyah (Saudi Arabia), the drivers – 10 in number, on a voluntary basis for this first race – will see their helmets equipped with a camera whose video capture will be integrated into the images broadcast by televisions.

A different angle of view that is very popular IndyCar for example, where the system is in place since 2002, and which could allow the promoter to offer additional pay-to-play products to fans of Formula E, as does WRC with its WRC+ universe, or the Canal+ television channel with its Expert mode F1.

In Formula 1, tests were carried out in 2018, but the decision whether or not to use these on-board cameras has not yet been made. However, if Formula E goes there, it is difficult to see why F1 would deprive itself of it. From a technical point of view, the device is not very complex and weighs only a few grams.

The mini camera is inserted into the helmet padding, next to the pilot's temple and is connected by a cable to a box. Two models of helmets (Bell brand), mainly used by drivers and FIA approved, are offered with this system, which will therefore make its official debut at the start of the season. Who will be the drivers who will play the game?
