Formula e pushes back entry of Gen2 EVO

The Gen2 EVO of the Formula e whose concept was presented last February saw its entry into competition delayed for one season. In agreement with the FIA and the teams, the organizers of the electric single-seater championship preferred to postpone the update of the mounts in the face of the coronavirus crisis.

The FIA World Council has decided to extend the homologation period. Manufacturers will only be able to modify mechanical elements once during the next two seasons.

Teams will have the choice between two options for the 7th season played in 2020 and 2021. They will be able to launch a new car who will have to keep their powertrain for the following season or continue to use their current powertrain and enter a new car for the 8th season of Formula e.

“In these difficult times, we have adopted a flexible approach, said Alejandro Agag, the director of Formula e. Not only did we quickly choose to temporarily suspend the season, but we implemented measures to control costs and reduce the level of development within the teams. »

“We have listened carefully to teams and manufacturers with the FIA and have chosen to postpone the launch of Gen2 EVO by limiting teams to a single homologation for the next two years. It was a necessary action to contain costs in the face of the health and financial crisis we are going through.", said the founder of Formula e.

With these measures, Formula e hopes to halve the development cost for the teams involved.
