Victory for Tsunoda, good operation for Shwartzman

He is definitely one of the nice surprises of this season of Formula 2. Already winner in the sprint race at Silverstone and author of pole on Friday on this Spa-Francorchamps track, the Japanese dominated the main race ahead of Nikita mazepin (Hitech) and Mick Schumacher (Prema), who once again made a thunderous start to get a 5th podium this season.

Deprived of a victory in the main race in Hungary due to a radio problem, the protégé of Red Bull thought he saw a new victory slipping away from him without him being able to do anything about it. In the lead until the 11th lap and his dive into the pits, tsunoda was a victim of his team's difficulties in tightening his wheels and saw Mazepin (Hitech) come out in front of him and take control of the operations.

Robert Shwartzman does the right thing

Despite his delay on the Russian, the Japanese came back and attempted a first attack on Mazepin at turn 5, but he was crushed by the Russian, determined not to let himself pass. The scene repeated itself on the penultimate lap, and if the Hitech driver crossed the line in first position, he was given a 5-second penalty, relegating him to 2nd position.

For his part, the championship leader Callum Ilott (UNI-Virtuosi), in difficulty for the first time this season during qualifying (12th) on Saturday, is definitely having a difficult weekend. The Briton, who was unable to make his tires work, clung for a long time to 8th place, synonymous with pole position for the sprint race, before being dispossessed by Luca Ghiotto (Hitech) and finally Roy Nissany (Trident ). Ilott sees Shwartzman (5th and author of the best lap) come back to seven points. Ilott will start 10th on Sunday… while the Russian will start 4th.

On the French side, ART Grand Prix was only able to achieve a 13th place with Marcus Armstrong, who beat his teammate Lundgaard for the first time in a long time. At DAMS, Daniel Ticktum brings back big points (6th) and will start on the second row on Sunday, while Jüri Vips, who started on the last row for his first in the category, took a good 11th place.
