Latifi: “Still many points to score”

Promoted to 2019 test pilot Williams F1 Team, the Montreal native has had a successful start to the season on the tracks of Sakhir, Baku and Barcelona.

« Nicholas had a fantastic race in Bahrain, full of control, had confided his boss François Sicard (see: AUTOhebdo #2210). He remained focused and made a remarkable comeback. It's a fair return for a hard worker. »

A worker who, from Spain, sees himself participating in free practice for the F1 Grand Prix at the wheel of the FW42. Everything then suggests that the Canadian is racing towards the title when his destiny changes.

Unlucky as much as in search of sensations at the wheel of a disoriented vehicle, the 24-year-old driver lost the lead in the championship due to lack of results at Monaco and Paul-Ricard.

“I need to improve in sprint races. I sometimes find it difficult to progress,” he declared on the official F2 website.

Difficulties in improving which then contrast with a Brazilian teammate, Sergio Sette Camara in full rise.

« We end on a very good note with the victory of Sergio Sette Câmara here in Austria, had then concluded the captain of DAMS (AUTOhebdo #2223). Unfortunately, Nicholas was a bit of a victim this weekend. We are a little bitter because there was a way to achieve a very good overall result. »

A victim whose executioner is none other than the now Dutch leader Nyck De Vries. While many believe Nicholas latifi too far behind to hope to challenge for the title, his podium at Silverstone and his very solid victory in Hungary revived him in the championship.

« Our goal was to go into battle because it was the only way to get De Vries on a circuit where it is so difficult to overtake, remembered his French boss (AUTOhebdo #2228). Today, Nicholas did the job well. »

A first step found for a DAMS team whose the creator, Jean-Paul Driot, disappears a few hours later, the symbol was very strong ahead of a crucial Belgian Grand Prix.

« À Spa-Francorchamps, there will still be a lot of points to score and I think the last four laps will be very important to reduce the gap to Nyck De Vries. »

If the title is still possible for Nicholas Latifi, it is clear that the task will prove difficult to overcome given the consistency of the Dutch leader this season.
