Lawson wins Race 2 on a wet track

There was no rain, but the vestiges of the night showers which fell on the Principality spiced up the second sprint race of the weekend. In this little game, it was Liam Lawson who shone to achieve his second success of the season in just five races ahead of Dan Ticktum (Carlin) and Oscar piastri (According to).

Starting on the front row, the Kiwi finally found himself in the position of unofficial pole sitter after the mechanical problem suffered by official pole sitter Marcus Armstrong before the grid. The DAMS driver had to start from the pit lane, leaving his compatriot to lead the pack. The only problem for Lawson was that the left part of the track was the wettest, which allowed Oscar Piastri (Prema) to take the lead at the first turn, and Dan Ticktum (Carlin) to take third place from Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix).

But very quickly, Lawson put a lot of pressure on the Australian. After a first aborted overtaking attempt at the chicane on lap 6, the New Zealander finally dove inside at Rascasse a few meters later. With success. After having distanced himself by three seconds, Lawson finally saw Daniel Ticktum (Carlin) come back at full speed in the second third of the race, but the Briton was not able to keep the pace of the leader at the end of the race. race, despite a Safety Car.

The race, on the other hand, was nightmarish for the UNI-Virtuosi duo who started 9th and 10th. Stuck in Monaco traffic, Felipe Drugovich and the championship leader Guanyu-Zhou decided to go to the pit lane to put on dry tires on the 11th lap. Before confirming this bad choice and changing his mind... For his part, Théo Pourchaire finished in 5th place, after being passed in the final loops by a Jüri Vips (Hitech) who was very difficult to resist. The Frenchman pockets six important points and will start from pole position for the main race, scheduled for this Saturday at 17:15 p.m.
