Logic dictated that the Pocono oval would be ejected from the calendar IndyCar in 2020. The Pennsylvania route had been sharply criticized for its dangerousness, accidents of Robert Wickens then Felix Rosenqvist having demonstrated the weakness of infrastructure and repairs.
The organizers of the American championship heard these criticisms and decided to no longer go to Pocono in 2020. Instead, the single-seaters will compete in Richmond (Virginia), a renovated 1,2 km long oval. The turns are inclined at 14 degrees, and had not been run by IndyCar since 2009.

« Richmond Raceway benefited from $30 million in renovations », specifies the boss of the championship, Mark Miles. This is the only new feature of the 2020 season. The other 16 races keep an order very similar to the 2019 year, with a few small exceptions.
For example, the round of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas) will no longer be the second meeting, but the fourth. Moreover, the organization of the Tokyo Olympic Games in August forces the American broadcaster NBC to postpone the Mid-Ohio race, from the end of July to mid-August.
