July 4th weekend races behind closed doors in Indianapolis

National holiday weekend on the other side of the Atlantic, July 4th will see IndyCar et Nascar perform in concert on the Indianapolis complex.

A meeting which will however be held behind closed doors this year, due to the coronavirus pandemics. The circuit's governing bodies have spoken at length with local and state authorities in Indiana.

Marion County has only entered phase 3 of the lockdown, compared to phase 5 for other parts of the state. Uncertainty over the possibility of reaching phase 5 for the county by July 4 forced circuit leaders to make the decision behind closed doors.

The Brickyard 400, the flagship event of the weekend on July 5 in the Nascar Cup Series, will be preceded the day before by the IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis, and by the Xfinity Series round.
