Reworked qualifying for Indy 500

Without upsetting everything upon his arrival at the helm of the American series, Roger Penske gently places its paw on theIndyCar. To begin, the Indianapolis 500 (May 24) were at the heart of the concerns of the boss of Team Penske, title holder with simon pagenaud.

The announcement, made 100 days before the legendary event, concerns a slight overhaul of the qualifications. First of all, it is the power of the single-seaters which will be increased during the sessions, with a little more than 45 hp given in addition to the boost. Top speeds should therefore increase this year, and lap times potentially lower.

Another change, concerning the format this time, with the famous Last Row Shootout, fatal to Fernando Alonso last year, and which determines the three drivers who bring up the rear on the starting grid. If only one attempt was authorized until now, several runs will be possible in 2020.

These modifications include a broader plan to improve the 500-mile experience, with several new features for fans, such as modified access, giant screens and guaranteed 5G connectivity. Finally, note that the prize money for the event for drivers and teams will be increased from 2 to 15 million dollars.
