Liam Lawson wins first sprint race

Starting from third position, rookie Liam Lawson (Hitech Grand Prix) won the first race of Formula 2 of the season and his career, this Saturday in Bahrain. More vivid than Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) and David Beckmann (Charouz) when the lights went out, the New Zealander took control from the first corner and never left it.

Second throughout the first part of this 23-lap sprint race, Théo Pourchaire, who started on pole thanks to the reverse grid rule, was on track to get an entry podium. But the Habs suffered a technical problem in the 14th round, suddenly losing power. He was therefore forced to retire and will start from 19th place in race 2.

An incident which allowed Jehan Daruvala to take second place and pounce on the Kiwi. The two protégés of Red Bull There was a big battle at the end of the race, but despite the DRS, the Indian was unable to dislodge the Kiwi. A great performance from the Hitech Grand Prix driver, who pocketed the fifteen points promised to the winner.

Also note the excellent comeback of Robert Shwartzman (Prema), who failed to reach the podium after starting from 11th place. Oscar piastri (Prema) finished 5th despite an attack attempted in vain on his teammate two laps from the end.

As for the French teams, Christian Lundgaard represented the colors of ART Grand Prix with a good 6th position. For DAMS, on the other hand, the misfortune continues with the rapid abandonment of Marcus Armstrong. Disqualified from qualifying due to a technical non-compliance with his car, Jüri Vips (Hitech) finished 10th after starting from the back of the grid. He will start on pole in the second F2 race.
