Long Beach to host Formula E in 2015

The first season of Formula E, FIA badged World Championship for electric single-seaters, will begin on September 13 around the Bird's Nest, the Olympic stadium in Beijing, China. Throughout this first year of existence, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E will play in some of the most famous cities in the world: Monte-Carlo, Miami... However, two dates remained to be defined to complete the calendar. We've known one since this evening.

It is the city of Long Beach which will host Formula E on April 4, for the second coming of the series to the United States after Miami. And it will be on a modified version of the route of the usual Long Beach Grand Prix in IndyCar that the pilots will evolve. The starting line will be the same as for the Indy DW12s, along the Marina. The Long Beach ePrix circuit (official name of the race) will have a total length of 2,1 km. “Long Beach is proud to be among the group of international cities that will host Formula E, declared Mayor Bob Foster, a recognized expert on energy issues. The Long Beach ePrix will bring a new generation of racing fans to the iconic streets of Long Beach. »

The two American teams, Andretti Autosport and Jay’s Penske Dragon Racing, will therefore compete twice at home. Failing to have brought back the F1 in its streets, as was once envisaged before the city council extended its lease with IndyCar, Long Beach will be one of Formula E's major races in 2014-2015.
