What does a young hopeful do? car when the doors of the Formula 1 seem closed? He is sailing towards other championships, even other continents. This is what Christian Lundgaard decided to accomplish, by joining the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team in IndyCar.

The Dane, aged 20, will compete in the Indianapolis Grand Prix on the American infield on August 14. “I have been very fortunate so far in my career to drive some incredible race cars and I can't wait to add this championship to that list,” said the driver.Alpine Academy

“In preparation for this race I tested the car and it was pretty awesome. There has been a lot of work to prepare as well as possible and I feel ready to take on the challenge. I actually watched every IndyCar race this year!

There will be a lot to learn in a short time, but trying something new excites me. I can't thank Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing enough, Alpine, my sponsors for supporting me with this opportunity. It’s a unique opportunity and I can’t wait to give it my all. »

Christian Lundgaard will thus seek to give new impetus to a career initially promising in single-seaters, but thwarted since his accession to the Formula 2. He is only 12th in the discipline, even though this is his second full season with one of the benchmark teams, ART Grand Prix.

Davide Brivio, the Race Director ofAlpine in F1, recognizes that this choice is strategic: “We are evaluating different options for the next step (in the Lundgaard quarry. Editor’s note), but for this particular moment, we only focus on the present moment, that is, enjoying a different type of car and environment, working hard and delivering results. »
