BMW i Andretti has confirmed the recruitment of German Maximilian Günther, while Antonio Felix da Costa leaves the Munich brand.

Max Günther replaces Antonio Felix da Costa at BMW i Andretti

We placed him among the favorites to succeed the Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa at BMW i Andretti: Maximilian Gunther will join the alliance between the German manufacturer and Michael Andretti's team from the 2019-2020 season in Formula E.

The 22-year-old German will play on the car Germanic from the first event in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia (November 22-23). “ BMW i Andretti Motorsport had a strong debut season in Formula E, won the very first race and was involved in the title fight until the end,  recalls Günther. 

That's why this team change is definitely a fantastic step for me. It’s great to compete for BMW again. That’s where it all started for me in single-seaters in 2011.”

Günther had actually started in motorsport with Formula BMW before go through the FIA ​​European Championship F3 (vice-champion 2016 and 3rd in 2017) then the FIA F2. The native of Oberstdorf will thus begin his first full campaign in the discipline, after competing in a partial program in 2018-2019 with Dragon Racing.

Twice 5th in Paris and Berne in Switzerland, Günther will be supported by a second driver who has yet to be confirmed and who will be announced according to BMW before the official tests in Valencia next month. For his part, Antonio Felix da Costa is heading to DS Techeetah, even if formalization is still awaited from the team which led Jean-Eric Vergne to the 2018-2019 coronation.
