Mick Schumacher FIA F2 champion

Mick Schumacher shook, but he is the new world champion of Formula 2 ! Tenth in the sprint race this Sunday, Callum Ilott did not manage to dislodge his colleague from the Ferrari Driver Academy from the top of the championship. The German, only 18th, won the second title of his career after the European Championship of F3 two years ago.

Author of a very good start from fourth position, Mick Schumacher moved into second position at the first corner. His only objective? Keeping Callum Ilott, who was 14 points behind in the championship, behind. But the Briton pressed on for several laps, until passing on the 19th lap, opening the door for Robert Shwartzman and Guanyu-Zhou, which infiltrated.

Prema then decided to call Schumacher back to the pits to allow him to finish the race with better tyres, which did not work. As a result, a second place for Ilott with the fastest lap in the race would have given him the title. But Ilott, at the same time, after having defended for a long time, saw his tire performance drop and finished 10th. The two contenders therefore finished outside the points.

For the record, it was Jehan Daruvala who won his first victory of the season, despite heroic defense from Dan Ticktum throughout the race. The Briton finished 3rd, on the podium, after being overtaken in the last corner by Yuki tsunoda, author of another great performance after his victory in the main race on Saturday.
