Mitch Evans strong winner in Mexico

Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) achieves the second victory of his career in Formula E after his success in Rome in 2018-2019, by winning authoritatively in Mexico this Saturday evening.

The driver of the British brand built his triumph from the start of the race by passing pole sitter André Lotterer (Porsche) at the first turn, the German going off-trajectory while trying to resist, before giving up positions facing Nyck de Vries (Mercedes) and Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams).

The race was then neutralized after the incident involving Nico Müller (Dragon Racing), who crashed into the tire wall at turn 1. The safety car procedure is deployed while the vehicle is cleared. car embedded in the protections.

Another important incident occurred a little less than 20′ from the finish when Nyck de Vries tried to defend his position on the main straight against Antonio Felix da Costa (DS Techeetah), holder of Attack Mode .

If the FIA champion F2 title forces the Portuguese to move against the wall, de Vries finally locks his wheels when braking and hits his compatriot Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing). De Vries finished his race against the protective wall, when Frijns was able to continue his effort after losing several positions.

In the lead, Mitch Evans is far from these concerns, and largely dominates the event. The Kiwi driver won in the end ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa, who took advantage of Sam Bird's error in the last five minutes, to move up to second position.

The podium is completed by Sébastien Buemi, who opens his points counter for this 2019-2020 campaign. The Swiss is ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) and Alexander Sims (BMW i Andretti) for the top 5.

Disillusionment for André Lotterer, with a 99X Electric damaged at the right front wheel fairing, forcing the pole-sitter to return to the pits to change the entire front part of the car, before retiring a few minutes later.

Leader of the championship before this meeting, Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) was aiming for big points by fighting for a possible top 5 at the end of the race, before hitting the barriers in the very last minutes and failing in 17th place.

Felipe Massa (Venturi) was also forced to retire after contact with the tire wall on the outside of turn 1. Note that Daniel Abt, injured in EL1 and passed through the hospital for check-ups, missing EL2 and qualifying, was able to take the start, without seeing the finish.

Evans also took the lead in the championship with 47 points, one point ahead of Alexander Sims.
