Mortara blocks Grosjean's road

When the red lights went out, Edoardo Mortara made an excellent start to overtake the pole sitter Kamui Kobayashi. The Franco-Italian took Jérôme d?Ambrosio, Giedo van der Garde and Romain Grosjean. Kobayashi therefore emerged from the first corner in fifth position, just ahead of Vitaly Petrov.

Building on his victory in the first race, Romain Grosjean demonstrated his immense talent by overtaking Giedo van der Garde then Jérôme d?Ambrosio. The Franco-Swiss was quick to return to the leader's exhaust.

Mortara and Grosjean quickly broke away from the peloton. It remained to be seen who would have the last word! In the peloton, Luca Filippi had to defend his 6th position against Vitaly Petrov, himself under threat from Maldonao and Hulkenberg. Three laps from the finish, Filippi could not defend his chances because of dying tires. It was finally Maldonado who pulled the chestnuts out of the fire by seizing his position.

Meanwhile, Mortara had managed to maintain the advantage over Grosjean. The RDD driver still leaves Barcelona as a big winner, already with a comfortable lead over his pursuers. Next meeting in Monaco!
