Newgarden wins in Texas, Pagenaud and Bourdais in the points
Arriving in Texas as leader in the general classification, Josef Newgarden (Penske) hit the nail on the head by winning the event held on the Fort Worth oval. This is the first time that the 28-year-old American has won a superspeedway victory.
Josef Newgarden, who started from seventh place, took the lead from lap 190 (out of a total of 248). “This success was achieved by my team. I knew that after my last pit stop we would have a big fuel advantage over the others”, He explains.
Alexander Red (Andretti) finished second after several attacks on the 2017 champion. Debutant Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing) finished just off the podium, behind Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing). With the fifth place of Ryan Hunter-Real (Andretti), it is the first time that the Top 5 has been monopolized by American drivers since… August 26, 2001 and the Gateway event!
simon pagenaud (Penske) collects the points for sixth place. Sebastian Bourdais is eighth. « We really hoped for better, recognizes Manceau. We had adopted a strategy that could have paid off, but the yellow flags worked against us. »
