After missing out on his first day of racing in Berlin, Nyck De Vries (Mercedes) assumed his status as reigning world champion. For the second round of the Formula E of the weekend in the German capital, the Dutch driver chose the right strategy and logically won ahead of poleman Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) at 2″454 and Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) at 6″936. With this result, Nyck De Vries returns to the top step of the podium for the first time since his victory during the inaugural round in Diriyah (Saudi Arabia).

Placed in 3rd position on the grid behind Robin Frijns (Envision) and Edoardo Mortara, the Mercedes driver got the best start of the three drivers and found himself in the lead from the first turn. Once the Swiss and the Dutchman were overtaken, Nyck De Vries quickly opened a gap using the unique 1-minute attack mode. Behind, Edoardo Mortara opted for a different strategy by delaying his power boost compared to his competitors. But the lead was too big and the Swiss, who took two pole positions and victory in race 8, was satisfied with second place and the best lap in 1'1″08. Stoffel Vandoorne, like his race the day before, once again moved up the peloton to obtain his second podium of the weekend. By placing its two drivers in the lead in Berlin, Mercedes widens the gap on DS Techeetah in the manufacturers' standings.

The French team emerged frustrated from this second race, like its driver Jean-Éric Vergne who only finished in 9th place. Qualified in 8th position, the native of Pontoise was quickly detached and he did not have the pace to aim higher, finishing 18 seconds behind Nyck de Vries! With only two points in race 2 in Berlin, he lost a place in the general classification to the detriment of Edoardo Mortara and let Stoffel Vandoorne take a lead with now a 16-point gap between the two men.

3 minutes from the end of the race, Lucas Di Grassi (Venturi) thought he could finally secure his second podium of the season. This was without counting on the attack of Stoffel Vandoorne who chose the inside of the first corner to get his 1th podium of the season in 5 rounds. Also note, the failure of Robin Frijns (Envision) which was costly at the finish line. The Dutchman who started in 8nd position had chosen to go for his attack mode after 2 minutes of racing. Problem is, he did not follow the obligatory route to the end and he was forced to lose time a second time to get his power boost. After a collision on the last lap with Antonio Felix Da Costa (DS Techeetah), he crossed the line in 12th position and allowed Envision to score its first and only points of the weekend.
