Nyck de Vries takes pole in Diriyah

There are De Vries and all the others. Best free time 1, best free time 2 and pole position. Nyck De Vries hovers over Diriyah, during the opening round of season 7 of Formula E. The Dutchman of Mercedes put more than six tenths behind the competition during the superpole and will be the big favorite of the race at the end of the afternoon.

Behind him, Pascal Wehrlein is the best of the others. For his first appearance at Porsche, the German will start from the first line. He is ahead of René Rast, new starter at Audi this season. The surprising Edoardo Mortara (Venturi) and Alex Lynn (Mahindra) complete the top 5, just over a second behind.

Finally Mitch Evans (Jaguar) was the last qualifier in superpole. Frenchman Norman Nato (Venturi) ranks 12th.

Qualifications to forget for DS Techeetah. Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix Da Costa got in the way during their fast lap and ended up in the last two places of the session. The penalty game brings them up a little on the grid, but they will still start outside the top 15.

A poor performance caused in part by their presence in the first group, since Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) or Lucas Di Grassi (Audi), prominent during free practice, also achieved poor times beyond the top 15. All are condemned to make a nice comeback to grab valuable points for the title.

The race can be followed at 17:30 p.m.
