Oscar Piastri in F2 with Prema in 2021

World champion Formula 3 last September, Oscar piastri will line up in Formula 2 next season. After a perfect marriage in 2020 with Prema in F3, the Australian driver will remain under the Italian flag for what will be his very first season in the anteroom of the Formula 1. The Australian should digitally replace Mick Schumacher, leaving for Formula 1 near home Haas.

“We are obviously very happy to welcome Oscar to our Formula 2 team, declared René Rosin, the team principal of Prema. His running skills are as impressive as his pure speed. Above all, he has a very accurate vision of the complexity of current motorsport and he has a very keen ability to adapt. After his great 2020 season with us, it was natural for us to continue the collaboration with him. »

Also Formula Champion Renault Eurocup in 2019, the protégé of the Renault Sport Academy will therefore tackle the last step of the pyramid of car, before a possible big leap into Formula 1. “I'm extremely excited to make my F2 debut, confided the Aussie.

Before adding: “Prema has proven that they are the team to beat this year (Editor's note: the Italian team leads the drivers' and teams' championship). So I am extremely happy and grateful to stay with the Prema family, and I look forward to eating even more pizza and pasta! »

This is not the first time that Prema Racing has decided to trust its outgoing Formula 3 champion. Crowned in 2018, Mick Schumacher was also offered this chance after his title in F3 Europe, just like Robert Shwartzman the season last after becoming the first FIA F3 winner. Note that Oscar Piastri is the very first driver to be officially announced for 2021 on the Formula 2 grid.
