Oscar Piastri wins a second crazy race

Winner in his first FIA race F3 last season, Oscar piastri (Prema) only needed two this year to achieve his first victory in F2. The Australian took advantage of a completely crazy race to get the best of the rest of the peloton. He imposes himself in front Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi) and Jehan Daruvala (Carlin). Second to cross the line, Christian Lundgaard was demoted to ninth position following the ten-second penalty he received after being judged responsible for the puncture of Lirim Zendeli (MP Motorsport).

Starting 4th after his 7th place in Race 1 earlier in the morning, the Chinese Zhou thought he had done the hardest part by taking the lead of the race on the 4th lap, after the restart following the first safety car. The UNI-Virtuosi were flying, Felipe Drugovich even returned to the podium after starting from 16th place. But the Brazilian caused the retirement of Liam Lawson (Hitech), winner of Race 1, receiving a ten-second penalty in his turn and causing the appearance of a new Safety Car (Lap 13).

As a result, everyone except Zhou, Drugovich, Armstrong and Viscaal decided to return to the pits and wear Soft tires. On his Hard tires, which are suffering even more this year compared to last year, Zhou could not resist the returns of pole sitter Jüri Vips and Oscar Piastri. The unfortunate Estonian suffered a technical problem and allowed Oscar Piastri to take second place, before the Australian, on his Soft tires, passed Zhou for victory on the last lap.

For its part, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) managed a superb comeback from 19th place. The Frenchman actually finished 6th and pocketed valuable points. He probably could have finished even higher if he had stopped in the pits at the same time as the others. Daniel Ticktum (Carlin) and Robert Shwartzman (Prema), who collided at the first corner, left the race from the start.
