Parent winner of a chaotic race

The start of the race was delayed by 15 minutes due to a serious accident in the pitlane (see elsewhere), but at the start Alvaro Parente was the center of attention. Slightly slower when the lights went out, the Portuguese managed to keep the advantage over Nico Hulkenberg while keeping the rope.

Despite his penalty, which saw him move from 2nd to 5th place on the grid, Lucas di Grassi managed to make a very good start and move into third position, behind Nico Hülkenberg and ahead of Diego Nunes and Pastor Maldonado. Having gotten off to a bad start, Vitaly Petrov found himself ninth at the end of the first round.

Very fast at the head of the peloton, Alvaro Parente increases his lead as the laps pass. Far from it, Vitaly Petrov has to throw in the towel due to a recalcitrant engine. At the same time, after passing through the pits, Karun Chandhok attempted a daring overtake on Davide Valsecchi and made a mistake, dragging Davide Rigon in his wake. The sanction is the same for Luca Filippi, who also made a mistake while overtaking Davide Valsecchi. The replacement of Romain Grosjean cannot avoid the collision and the incident forces the safety car to come out. For Alvaro Parente, the gap built up until now must be rebuilt.

Despite everything, the Portuguese manages to keep the lead with authority against Nico Hülkenberg, the leader of the general classification. But a few minutes from the finish, while Alvaro Parente was heading towards a great victory, Stefano Coletti suffered a serious accident. Going up the Raidillion de l?Eau Rouge, the Monegasque pulls straight and hits the tire wall violently. Fortunately, the pilot quickly indicates that he is conscious.

It was therefore behind the safety car that Alvaro Parente crossed the finish line, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, Lucas di Grassi, Pastor Maldonado and Diego Nunes. The reward is great for Parente, who offers his first GP2 Series victory to Ocean Racing Technology. At the same time, Hülkenberg carried out a very good operation since he scored eight points and now has a 28-point lead over Vitaly Petrov. Five races from the end of the season, the GP2 Series championship title seems promised to the German.
