Patricio O'Ward fastest in final practice for Indy 500

Carb Day traditionally marks the final training session before the start of the Indianapolis 500 (Indiana). Although it would be risky to draw plans on the comet, we can nevertheless report the good state of form of the beginner Patricio O’Ward (Arrow McLaren SP), author of the best time Friday August 21.

The rookie completed a lap of the oval at 225,355 mph, or a speed of 362,67 km/h! “I think it was very important to optimize the car for Sunday, says Patricio O’Ward. I think traffic will be a crucial part of the race.

Even though it's only my first 500 miles, I can see that the ability of one car to follow another is extremely important. »

Behind the newcomer, we find the experienced Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi) as well as Alexander Red (Andretti), both former winners at Indianapolis (in 2008 and 2016). “We lost a bit of front grip, indicates the New Zealander, testing all the different front wings so they are ready for the test. »

Pole sitter Marco Andretti (Andretti) returned to the ranks (28th) as did, to a lesser extent, the Frenchman simon pagenaud, 14th in his fluorescent yellow Penske. The double winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans, Fernando Alonso (Arrow McLaren SP) is ranked 23rd.
