Prema wins the team ranking

If we will have to wait until Sunday to know the identity of the driver who will win the title of champion of Formula 2 2020, the team championship delivered its verdict this Saturday. Thanks to the 5th and 7th places of Robert Shwartzman and Mick Schumacher in the main race in Sakhir, Prema ensured herself to win the team championship.

There is in fact only one race remaining this Sunday, but the 39,5 points lead over UNI-Virtuosi is enough for the Italian team to secure the title. This is also the first time since the creation of the championship in 2017 that Prema has won the team title.

The structure led by René Rosin had already won the pilot championship with Charles Leclerc behind the wheel, but she had been surpassed at the time by Russian Time. In 2018, it was Carlin who won the title with the duo Lando Norris –Sergio Sette Camara. In 2019, the Brazilian driver was still in the game, offering the title to the Le Mans team DAMS alongside Nicholas latifi.

This season, Prema was able to rely on the experience of Mick Schumacher, current championship leader, who is competing in his second year in the category, and on the natural speed of rookie Robert Shwartzman, who had just won the world champion title. of Formula 3, already with Prema.

The performance is all the more remarkable given that the 2019 season was quite difficult with a 9th place in the team standings, with the Schumacher-Gelael duo. 2020 was quite a challenge with the introduction of 18-inch tires and it seems that the Italian team negotiated the turn perfectly.
