Respecting track limits is crucial for this session, George Russell (ART GP) and Nyck de Vries (Prema Racing) seeing their first times erased for going too wide at Raidillon. But the championship leader still recorded the first benchmark of the session in 1'56''507 ahead of the Carlins of Lando Norris and Sergio Sette Câmara.
By riding during the others' break, De Vries improved the best time by four tenths and took provisional pole before the second pass of the rest of the grid.
Despite improvements on all sides in the first two sectors, none can beat the time of the Dutchman who pockets his first pole position in Formula 2 with a time of 1'56''054. George Russell ranks 2e in front of Sergio Sette Câmara.
In the last moments, Luca Ghiotto (Campos) takes 4e place for Lando Norris who is forced to stop his car in his pit lap. Alexander albon (DAMS) finishes 6e ahead of Antonio Fuoco (Charouz Racing), the driver Ferrari also stopped on the track. Nirei Fukuzumi (Arden) and Louis Delétraz (Charouz Racing) complete the top 10. Dorian Boccolacci (MP Motorsport) ranks 20e of his first qualifying session in F2.
