Robert Shwartzman hits double in Austria

The rain, which fell all day on the Styrian mountains, greatly disrupted the day's progress. After waiting an hour for the F1 finishes his qualifications, then another so that the conditions on the track improve, the 22 F2 of the grid were released, under safety car regime.

And it's Russian Robert Shwartzman (Prema Racing), starting from 6th position, who knew how to tame the elements to achieve his first success in F2, just a few months after winning the FIA F3.

Author of a superb start, the Russian was unleashed from the first laps, overtaking his opponents one by one, in the company of the Dane Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix). But despite his remarkable race, the Russian probably should never have won.

The poleman Yuki tsunoda (Carlin), who spent two thirds of the race in the lead with almost 4 seconds ahead, twice missed his team's message telling him to dive into the pits to put on new tires. So obviously, when he deigned to rush in, the damage was already done, since he came out 3rd.

Thanks to fresher tires at the end of the race, the Japanese, supported by Red Bull and Honda, attacked Shwartzman, but was unable to put him down. He is ahead of the Chinese Guanyu-Zhou (3rd, UNI-Virtuosi), who managed to resist the return of Mick Schumacher (Prema Racing) in the final laps.

Getting off to a bad start with his 15th place in qualifying, Daniel Ticktum (DAMS) finished 8th and will therefore have the honor of starting from pole position on Sunday morning. He will try to save his team's weekend. For his part, Frenchman Giuliano Alesi (HWA Racelab) finished 21st.
