Romain Grosjean ideally launches its 2023 season in IndyCar. The Andretti Autosport driver took pole position for the first round of the year, organized in the streets of St Petersburg, Florida this Sunday March 5.
The old pilot F1 (10 podiums between 2009 and 2020) knew how to keep a cool head and avoid pitfalls to climb to the top of the qualifying timesheet with a time of 59''5532. The Frenchman is ahead of his Andretti teammate Colton Herta by 0”4155.
Patricio O'Ward (Arrow McLaren) takes the 3rd time, ahead of the winner of the 500 Indianapolis 2022, Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing). Scott McLaughlin (Team Penske) and Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti Autosport) complete the Fast Six.
Followed by Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing), 2021 IndyCar champion, Felix Rosenqvist (Arrow McLaren), six-time champion Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), and Will Power (Team Penske), crowned last year.
Disappointment on the other hand for the other Frenchman, simon pagenaud (Meyer Shank Racing). The 2016 IndyCar champion and 500 Indy 2019 winner will start at the back of the grid after stopping in the first phase of qualifying.
See you on Sunday at 18:00 p.m. French time to see if Romain Grosjean will manage to convert his 2nd IndyCar pole into his first success in the North American single-seater championship.
