Arrived in Uncle Sam's country this season after ten years in F1, Romain Grosjean had made it known that he would not start the rounds on an oval. But that was before.
A few months after his arrival in IndyCar and adaptation races, the situation has changed. The Habs have indeed decided to try the adventure of ovals, one of their fears until now on the other side of the Atlantic.
As a result, Romain Grosjean will compete in the Gateway round, the 13th of the season, on August 21. And to get there in optimal conditions, the Genevan was able to learn about ovals thanks to a day of testing organized on this same track.
« It was a pretty good day, he explains after completing 166 laps, the third highest total of the day. It’s the first time I’ve driven on an oval and it’s very, very different from what I’ve experienced so far.
I have a lot to learn from ovals, the feel of the car and how to quickly understand what I need in the car. I warn anyone who thinks driving on an oval is easy, they are totally wrong. It’s very difficult and special to tell the truth. ».
