Rowland opportunistic in Monaco

Starting on the second row, Oliver Rowland (Dams) secured his first victory of the season by winning Race 1 of the F2 at Monaco.

The former Formula champion Renault 3.5 Series took advantage of the second intervention of the safety car, following a collision between Louis Deletraz (Racing Engineering) and Robert Visoiu (Campos Racing), to gain time during its stop and emerge in the lead ahead of Artem Markelov (Russian Time) and Nobuharu Matsushita (ART Grand Prix) who imitated the Briton.

Charles Leclerc (Prema Racing) had retained the advantage of his pole and had lost the peloton before falling to 4th place after the stops. Things have gotten worse for the local star of the event who is nevertheless discovering the Principality route since he abandoned following a suspension problem and is under investigation for a suspicious maneuver during his stop.

Alexander albon (ART Grand Prix) and Luca Ghiotto (Russian Time) completed the top five ahead of Gustav Malja (Racing Engineering) and Nyck de Vries (Rapax). Johnny Cecotto Jr (Rapax) should start on pole for Race 2 after taking 8th position ahead of Jordan King (MP Motorsport) and Sergio Canamasas (Trident). Norma Nato (Pertamina Arden) retired due to a mechanical problem.

Charles Leclerc still retains control of the Drivers' standings but he only has a 3-point lead over Oliver Rowland. The Briton will have a great opportunity to become leader of the discipline at the end of the weekend since the Monegasque will have to start at the back of the grid following his retirement.

Race 2 of F2 will be contested this Saturday, May 27 from 16:10 p.m. and will be followed live on Canal+.
