A few minutes before the Euro Football final, Sam Bird leads the colors of England to victory, during the second race in New York. After a pole position earlier in the day, the Jaguar driver was in the lead from start to finish, perfectly managing this eventful E-Prix in the peloton.
Behind the podium is completed by Nick Cassidy and Antonio Felix Da Costa. Sam Bird thus becomes the only driver to have won two races this season.
Behind, the race was catastrophic for the championship leaders. Edoardo Mortara, in the lead before the race, finished outside the points after a collision, causing the Safety Car to intervene. The Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne, for his part, had to abandon at the start after his car has gone into “failure” mode.
Robin Frinjs, tied with Mortara, finished with only 4 points after starting in last position on the grid. Consequently, it is Sam Bird who takes control of the championship with 81 points.
The next meeting will remain in an English-speaking country since the drivers will go to London from July 24 to 25. With only 4 rounds remaining, the title race is still undecided.
