Sam Schmidt towards a double commitment

On one side, Sam Schmidt Motorsport, a team present IRL since 2001. On the other, Davey Hamilton, former driver of the team that year, today owner of his structure whose colors he defended last year. However, wanting to step back and settle for a managerial role, he would like to join forces with his former team so that his car competes in the entire 2012 championship. As I speak to you, we are painting cars, Sam Schmidt told ESPN. I can't say more about sponsors or anything. We have three single-seaters in the workshop and we should soon receive a fourth ».

This alliance would allow the team to benefit from a major sponsor, Hewlett Packard, loyal to the Davey Hamilton Racing team for several seasons. “ We are working to field a second car, continues Sam Schmidt. Most of the projects we had with Honda didn't come to fruition, so it opened up new possibilities. The only thing is, I'm not going to compromise Simon's program (Pagenaud) simply to run a second car. We therefore give ourselves until February 15th. We have the staff, the experience and the equipment. We are motivated to achieve this, but if it does not happen before the 15th, it is not certain that we will be able to put this in place properly before the first race (in Saint Petersburg, Florida, March 25). »

If second car ago, it will be entrusted to a pilot with a budget. For the moment, the British Martin Plowman seems to hold the rope, but the New Zealander Wade Cunningham and the Japanese Hideki Mutoh are also in the running.
