Santiago de Chile returns to the calendar with a new route

The first version of the calendar for the 2018-19 season Formula e had checked the date of January 26, 2019, without confirming the location of the ePrix. On Tuesday, the organizers finally announced that the third round of the season will take place at Santiago de Chile (Chile).

The major novelty consists of a total overhaul of the urban layout. While the 2018 edition was run around the Parque Forestal, the electric competition will take up residence in another park in the capital, Parque O’Higgins. The FIA ​​World Council must however ratify this choice

“We have listened to the comments of local residents – we are speaking with them with the aim of minimizing the consequences of organizing motor racing in Parque O’Higgins, explains Felipe Alessandri, the city's mayor.

The development work is done during the day but access to the park will remain open. » The mayor also specifies that the City's funds will make it possible to renovate certain areas of the park thanks to the work to create this circuit.

The Santiago de Chile circuit will feature 14 turns, with two long curves surrounding the Movistar Arena, a 17-seat indoor stadium. The first sector should not see many overtaking opportunities but has several corners negotiated at average speed. Attacks will be easier in the Movistar Arena chicane as well as the last portion.
