Scott Dixon on pole at Gateway thanks to rain

Rain forced organizers of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 held on the 1,25-mile oval at Gateway Motorsports Park (Illinois) to cancel qualifying.

The starting grid was therefore determined according to the positions in the Championship. Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) will start from pole for the first time since last year's Indy 500.

Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport) will follow in second place ahead of Penske drivers Josef Newgarden and Will Power. Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) will start from 6th position ahead simon pagenaud (Team Penske), Robert Wickens (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) remains hospitalized after his serious accident last weekend in Pocono (Pennsylvania). Sebastian Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) will start from 9th place.

Alexander Rossi was the fastest during the two contested practice sessions.
