Sébastien Buemi on pole for the first race in New York

Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) showed himself to be the strongest throughout qualifying for the first race of theNew York ePrix, dominating the group stage then the Super Pole.

The first group in action on the Brooklyn track saw Antonio Felix da Costa (BMW i Andretti) set the best time in 1’10”845 ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah).

But as often in Formula E, several drivers from the following groups improved their times as the session progressed, the track being very dusty in the United States.

In the end, it was Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) who came out on top in the group stages, setting the benchmark in 1’10”556. Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) follows at 32 thousandths and is ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (Mahindra Racing) by a thousandth and Alexander Sims (BMW i Andretti) by two thousandths.

Alex Lynn (Jaguar Racing) and Daniel Abt (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) complete the top 6 which will then compete for Super Pole.

A decisive session which finally saw Buemi confirm by taking pole in 1’10”188, more than four tenths ahead of Pascal Wherlein. Followed by Alex Lynn at 0″5, Abt at more than seven tenths, Sims and Bird who missed his attempt.

José Maria Lopez (Dragon Racing) follows in seventh position ahead of Felix da Costa, Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing) and Jean-Eric Vergne who thus limits the damage with a view to the title. Especially since his main rival, Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) only ranks 14th on the grid, two places behind Tom Dillmann (NIO).

Author of a spin in group 2 of qualifying, at the circuit hairpin, Jérôme d'Ambrosio (Mahindra Racing) ranks dead last.

The first race of the New York final will take place this evening at 22 p.m. French time.
