Sims takes first pole in New York, Buemi excluded from title race

On the grounds of the Andretti Autosport team, BMW’s partner in the adventure Formula E, Alexander sims earned his first career pole position in the discipline this Sunday, to start the second race of the New York ePrix at the top of the grid.

The group stages, which determine the six drivers qualified for the Super Pole, had already seen the domination of the Briton, author of the best time in 1'09″690, 166 thousandths ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (HWA) and 212 thousandths ahead of Daniel Abt ( Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler).

Robin Frijns and Sam Bird (Virgin Racing) and Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) also progressed to the final session, unlike Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) who only finished 11th and 12th.

But it was Alexander Sims who finally took pole position for this final race of the season in 1'09"617, 95 thousandths ahead of Robin Frijns (Virgin Racing). Winner yesterday in race 1, Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) sets the third time in front of Sam Bird, Stoffel Vandoorne and Daniel Abt, but is no longer able to challenge for the title.

Relegated to 26 points behind Vergne, the Swiss could equal the Frenchman in number of points with a victory enhanced by the best lap in the race, but the tie in points would then be favorable to the DS Techeetah driver in the number of victories (3 against 2)

Eighth on the grid behind Oliver Rowland (Nissan e.dams), Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) remains in the running for the title with Vergne and di Grassi.

Tom Dillmann (NIO) qualified 17th, when Alex Lynn (Jaguar Racing), who will be penalized 20 places for a change of MGU (electric motor), signs the 21st and penultimate time ahead of Felipe Massa (Venturi), who started at the fault during the session.
